Honor Brown

Bio

Honor Brown of West Point, Mississippi is a recent graduate of MUW. She graduated with a BFA in painting and drawing. Brown is a 21-year-old student of black art and culture. Her work is ultimately about her connection to her culture as a black woman. She is currently saving money and creating artwork to apply for graduate school as soon as possible.

Artist Statement

My work is a balance of flowing forms and geometric planes with an inherent interest in the figure. I create multiple layers with various media so that I can lean into maximalism as a design element.

I want the pieces to have a dense and electric like energy to them, much like the mark making and energy of graffiti. The organic and flowing lines and shapes are reminiscent of the lines and curves that interest me the most in figure drawing. During my process, I try to focus on balance of color and visual weight, creating intricate compositions that draw the viewer in for a closer look.
