DELIA LOCHALA

Delia Lochala is a painter from Columbus and works predominantly with oil on canvas. She is a self-taught artist and began oil painting in April of 2022; before that, she mainly created watercolor illustrations. Some of her artistic influences are the works of Shani Rhys James and Barbara Kroll. Her work is also heavily influenced by many musicians, such as Thom Yorke and PJ Harvey.

Delia paints to bring to life the peculiar, subtle feelings and images in her head; she tries to paint people conveying emotions that are almost confusing, the fleeting emotions that people do not usually acknowledge. When viewing her art, she wants the observer to feel a sense of unsettlement while wondering what the people in her paintings are feeling, but also find a strange comfort in them.

Her work has been shown at the Black Prairie Blues museum for the Women in Blues exhibition,
and more recently at J Broussard’s for their Art in the Restaurant series.
Her paintings have been sold locally and as far as Brooklyn, New York.

Delia is a young artist--only eighteen years old--and is proud to show her work and
hopefully inspire other young artists.
