Artist Statement
The Royalty Collection
In the tapestry of American culture, the contributions of Black artists and historians have woven a powerful narrative rich with identity, resilience, and royalty. Figures such as Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Erykah Badu, Nipsey Hussle, Aretha Franklin and many others, not only shaped music, but also redefined what it means to be a Black artist in a world that often marginalizes their voices. My art seeks to explore how these iconic figures portray the essence of royalty through their artistry and activism while reflecting the complexities of their identities. Their royalty transcends and signifies a legacy of excellence, influence, and cultural empowerment. Each of these artists has carved out a space where their identity is celebrated rather than suppressed. These kings and queens’ work encapsulates themes of empowerment and cultural pride.Their artistry serves as a platform for a discussion about identity, encouraging others to embrace their roots with pride. The narratives woven by these artists reflect a broader story about Black identity, one that is multifaceted and deeply rooted in history. Their contributions remind us that royalty is not merely inherited; it is earned through resilience, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to uplift others. My art was created to celebrate their legacies and acknowledge that each note sung or lyric penned carries with it the weight of history and hope for future generations. You are a royal priesthood, so own your destiny, place it upon your crown, and stride fearlessly in your purpose.
